At Mills Bay Mussels we are on a mission to spread happiness through delicious, healthy and sustainable food, New Zealand Greenshell™ Mussels.

One of the lowest carbon footprints of all animal proteins, almost equivalent to the plant based protein tofu!

Grown on our farms in the Marlborough Sounds, Greenshell™ mussels are unique to New Zealand. They are then hand graded, packed, prepared and served with love by our local team in Havelock.

Come take a seat at the Mills Bay Mussels café located at the front of the pack house down in the Havelock Marina – the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds. A friendly team working in an open kitchen will be showcasing the many exciting and delicious ways mussels can be prepared and enjoyed.

There is also a great selection available weekly for you to take home to your whānau.

Mills Bay Mussels is looking for an energetic, motivated star to join our team in the Tasting Room & Eatery located in Havelock Marina. 

Cooking and Hospitality experience is a must! The role involves serving customers, cooking & preparing mussels, cleaning, food safety and most importantly; delivering the Mills Bay Mussels experience! 

Mills Bay Mussels is a buissness full of action with a busy office & packhouse operating on site. The team at Mills Bay are trained across the board to support all departments encouraging employee growth and development. 

This a part time, permanent position of approx, 20-25 hours per week with work times falling between 8am-3.30pm Days fall between Wednesday through till Saturday. Starting from November 2024.

Try this delicious recipe with fresh live kūtai to share with your whānau! 💚

NZ Greenshell™ Mussels with macadamia, chive & citrus kelp crust 

INGREDIENTS

- One dozen fresh live mussels
- 250g macadamia nuts (sliced & toasted)
- 10g lemon kelp seasoning or substitute with a quality lemon pepper & wakame
- 1 orange zest from a single orange (fine)
- 6 Chives spears finely cut
- 150g Butter (softened)

METHOD

▪️Raw shuck the mussels using a blunt, flexible knife. Leave on the half shell
▪️Combine macadamia nuts, lemon kelp seasoning, orange zest and chives in a bowl & mix well, add butter & mix to combine.
▪️Loosen the mussel meat from the shell for ease of service.
▪️Top the mussel with the crust, evenly covering the mussel meat.
▪️Toast the crusted mussels under a hot grill (or bake in a hot oven) until the crust is toasted & the mussel is hot (7 - 10 minutes).
▪️Serve hot on a plate or platter (optional garnish – lemon wedges & coriander).
